Glossary

Backscatter

is the effect caused by particles in the water column reflecting light from the flash back into the lens. The result is a 'snow storm' effect

Nikonos

the underwater camera of choice still, after many years. It has neither rangefinder or through the lens focusing systems, just good old manual estimation.

Munro

A mountain over 3000' (914.4m) in Scotland named after Sir Hugh Thomas Munro (b 1856) who copiled the 1st list of such hills. There are approximately 276 Munros and 516 tops, hoever this figure is in constant flux a many are re-classified an removed or addded to the list.
