Grisedale Pike - The English Lake District
This view is across the Coledale Hause towards Eel Crag,
just above the rucksac. In the distance, the big rounded fell
is Grasmoor. While Grasmoor is only 61m higer than where the photo is
taken the walk up to it involves some 750' of descent and 850' reascent
from the col, Coledale Hause. If you start the walk from Winlatter Pass,
as I did the only way back is to retrace the same route.
The discussion regarding Feet vs. Metres needs to be explained. Being
an Oldie but being brought up at first in Scotland on S.I. units most
of my scientific thinking is still in metres, Newtons etc. However my
senior school education was based in England, and that being somewhat
behind the times reverted to a sort of halfway house where feet, inches
and furlongs were easily mixed in with the metre, coulombs and whatever.
Early jobs in PortaKabin ® which exposed me to the Joinery trades
cemented the confused mind when they cut timber as 4"x2" in
lengths in metres!
Repeat visitors to the site will see the photograph above
has changed. I've re-scanned the negatives using a BlackWiddow Filmscan-200,
and using these (3) images created this panoramic montage. I've also been
experimenting with the Arcsoft Panorama maker software. The version I'm
using is V3.0 and I have to say that despite some idiosyncacies I'm amazed
at it's performance. There is a brief
technical review of Arcsoft Panorama maker V3.0 if you follow the
link.
